Class is free of charge but donations are accepted and encouraged to support the program. Also donations of music instruments are accepted.

Music Class Structure / Estructura de la Clase de Música

THEORY:

10am -11am: Students are introduced to the program. Like any other discipline or creative field, music has its own language. The language of music is a very crucial part of the program and applies to all instruments. This language of music, music theory, is fundamental for all musicians of all levels. This part of music is pivotal in all areas of music including reading, writing, playing and understanding music! Many repeating students may feel like this hour is repetitive but when this happens we ask them to ask themselves if they have learned and retained ALL the information. Many times even for intermediate students the answer is no.

TEORÍA:

10am -11am: Se presenta a los estudiantes el programa. Como cualquier otra disciplina o campo creativo, la música tiene su propio lenguaje. El lenguaje de la música es una parte muy importante del programa y se aplica a todos los instrumentos. Este lenguaje de la música, la teoría musical, es fundamental para todos los músicos de todos los niveles. ¡Esta parte de la música es esencial en todas las áreas de la música, incluida la lectura, la escritura, la interpretación y la comprensión de la música! Muchos alumnos repetidores pueden sentir que esta hora es repetitiva pero cuando esto sucede les pedimos que se pregunten si han aprendido y retenido TODA la información. Muchas veces incluso para estudiantes de nivel intermedio la respuesta es no.

PRACTICE:

11am - 12pm: During this hour our instructors conduct several group exercises to put in practice what has been taught during the first hour. The class practices as a group composition with the various instruments available. The information in the first hour is crucial during this hour. If students skip the first hour thinking they just want to learn how to play instruments, believe us that they are not learning as quickly and as efficiently. On the contrary, they are reinforcing bad habits that will take longer to correct. Therefore, we stress the importance of the program's elements of theory and practice.

PRÁCTICA:

11am - 12pm: Durante esta hora nuestros instructores realizarán varios ejercicios grupales para poner en práctica lo aprendido durante la primera hora. La clase práctica como composición grupal con los distintos instrumentos disponibles. La información de la primera hora es crucial durante esta hora. Si los estudiantes se saltan la primera hora pensando que sólo quieren aprender a tocar instrumentos, créannos que no están aprendiendo tan rápido y tan eficientemente. Al contrario, están reforzando malos hábitos que llevará más tiempo corregir. Por ello, destacamos la importancia de los elementos teóricos y prácticos del programa.

HOMEWORK:

Students will go home with new knowledge, with assigned homework, and many exercises to practice. We encourage students to practice at home what they have learned in class. The practice is a culmination of hours of information and group practice.

TAREA:

Los estudiantes se irán a casa con nuevos conocimientos, con tareas asignadas y muchos ejercicios para practicar. Animamos a los estudiantes a practicar en casa lo aprendido en clase. La práctica es la culminación de horas de información y práctica grupal.

Class structure may vary due to the available instructors and teaching styles of each instructor. Our VOLUNTEER teachers are professionals in their field and they approach their teachings as such. If students stick to the program and take advantage of these hours of class, they’ll see progress. Homework is encouraged for all students to practice all lessons learned in class. Additionally, like in any other class to get the most learning, students are encouraged to research and practice on their own time as well.
